***UPDATE*** On August 21, 2023, Jimmie Rodgers, of Danville, was sentenced to 35 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to first-degree murder. He must serve the entire period of incarceration, and his sentence will be followed by three years of mandatory supervised release.

During the plea, Judge Derek Girton heard evidence establishing that Rodgers arrived at the Edgewood Drive apartment at approximately 5 a.m. on January 12, 2019. Rodgers was let into the apartment after pounding on the door, according to Vermilion County State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy’s office in a news release, and went to the back bedroom, where he located a former girlfriend with the victim, William Banks.

UPDATE 2/28/20 - Danville Police say 29-year-old Jimmie Rodgers, of Chicago, shot 32-year-old William Banks, of Danville, multiple times. Banks, 39; body was found with multiple gunshot wounds inside a home in the 1600 block of Edgewood Drive on January 12, 2019 around 5 a.m. Investigators identified Rodgers as the suspect, and a warrant was issued on February 1, 2019. Police believed Rodgers had left the area after the murder. Rodgers was arrested in Merrillville, Indiana, in February 2020 by members of the US Marshals Service. Rodgers is charged with first-degree murder and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.
