On July 30, 2014, 31-year-old Richard “RJ” Lawson Jr. was found deceased in his rented room at a home in the 600 block of Wilson Avenue in Elko, Nevada. Officers responded to the residence at approximately 3:45 a.m. and discovered that Richard had suffered fatal blunt-force injuries to his head and face. Investigators believe he was struck repeatedly with a solid object, but no weapon was recovered. Police have stated that the attack did not appear to be random. Richard was a hardworking father who held two jobs and left behind a young daughter. Over 10 years later, his homicide remains unsolved.
