Case Description

***IDENTIFIED*** - On November 25, 2025, the DNA Doe Project announced the identification of human remains discovered in the woods in La Vergne, Tennessee, on November 14, 2007, as Mary Alice Maloney. Originally from Connecticut, Maloney was living in the Greater Nashville area at the time of her disappearance. She was identified through the hard work of the La Vergne Police Department, the University of North Texas, and HudsonAlpha Discovery, with complex genetic research done by the DNA Doe Project using GEDmatch Pro and FamilyTreeDNA databases.

Mary was submitted to our platform as LaVergne Jane Doe in 2018 by LaVergne PD Sergeant Bob Hayes through our Law Enforcement Submission portal. Sadly, in 2023, after a promotion to Lieutenant, Bob Hayes passed away after a short but valiant fight against cancer.

While the identification of Mary Maloney answered a crucial part of the investigation, her homicide remains unresolved. Police estimate that she died in the spring or summer of 2007.

If you have any information on the unsolved homicide of Mary Alice Maloney, please call the La Vergne Police Department at (615) 793-7744. To remain anonymous and possibly be eligible for a reward, call the Rutherford County Crime Stoppers at (615) 893-7867.
