Mary Lands, 39, was last seen between 10:00 and 10:30 p.m. on March 12, 2004, walking away from her apartment near the 1200 block of Arms Street in Marshall, Michigan. Earlier that evening, she had reportedly become upset and said she was going for a walk. She was last seen in the area of the carport and never returned home. Mary disappeared leaving behind her clothes, cell phone, engagement ring, and keys at her residence, though she did take her white mesh purse. When she could not be located, her brother reported her missing. Investigators said Mary may have been intoxicated at the time she vanished, and her disappearance was soon considered suspicious. Search efforts included tracking dogs, which reportedly followed Mary’s scent to a nearby motel, but no clear evidence of her whereabouts was found there. Since her disappearance, Mary has not accessed her bank account or used her credit cards. Mary was the mother of two adult children, and much of her family lived in California. Her parents had moved there just days before she disappeared. Foul play is suspected in Mary’s disappearance. She was declared legally dead in April 2011, but her case remains unsolved.
