Late on the night of September 21, 2003, 15-year-old Larry Drayton Jr. approached a Richmond County Sheriff’s deputy while suffering from gunshot injuries. Larry was bleeding from his chest and mouth and told the deputy that he had been shot. Emergency medical personnel responded, and Larry was transported to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Investigators opened a homicide investigation into Larry’s death, but no arrest was made. More than two decades later, his murder remains unsolved. Tragically, Larry’s family experienced another devastating loss in 2024 when his father, Larry Drayton Sr., was also shot and killed. His father’s homicide remains unsolved as well. The Drayton family continues to carry the weight of two unanswered murders. Anyone with information that could help investigators identify those responsible for either homicide is encouraged to come forward.
