On August 13, 1980, at approximately 4:00 a.m., 37-year-old John Lee Ethridge Jr. was fatally shot in the driveway of his home in Meridian, Mississippi. John sustained gunshot wounds to his head and back. During the investigation, deputies determined that John’s pistol was missing from his vehicle. The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unresolved, and the person responsible for John’s death has not been identified. For more than four decades, John’s family has continued working with law enforcement and advocating for answers in his case. They remain committed to preserving his memory and seeking the accountability and justice he deserves.
