Case Description
On December 13, 2023, 19-year-old Jason Diego Abarca left his home in Maryland and was later involved in a single-vehicle crash on the I-81 southbound off-ramp to Berryville Avenue in Winchester, Virginia. Following the crash, he allegedly attempted to carjack one vehicle and successfully stole another from a nearby McDonald’s parking lot. The stolen vehicle was found abandoned on Star Tannery Road in Frederick County. On April 29, 2024, Jason’s remains were discovered in a wooded area nearby, with one leg caught in the fork of a tree. The Virginia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner identified the remains as Jason’s. The case remains under investigation. Jason's family continues to seek answers, while advocating for him.
