On September 8th, 1976 Gary Harper and another person were walking to Pitch Tavern for a six pack of beer in Port Orford, Oregon. They disappeared shortly after 10:30 P.M. after a few locals saw them on their walk, but they never returned home. They left behind their possessions, had little money on them, and left behind their vehicle. Gary's family continues to advocate for his case.
