On July 4, 1987, 20-year-old Fritz Vialpando III attended a family reunion at a residence in Questa, NM, with several friends who had been invited to play music and sing. According to reports, an argument occurred between Fritz and members of the family hosting the gathering. Minutes later, witnesses heard what they initially believed to be fireworks but soon realized was a gunshot. Fritz was found in a field near the residence suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported toward an Albuquerque hospital but was pronounced deceased at approximately 1:15 a.m. on July 5, 1987.
