On August 3, 2019, Erik McAllister was spending the evening with his wife at the Beer Depot near West 38th Avenue and Stuart Street in Denver, Colorado. Near the end of their date, Erik stepped outside to smoke while his wife remained inside to pay the bill. When she came outside, she found that Erik had been shot.

On January 22, 2021, the Denver District Attorney’s Office announced that 28-year-old Michael Bettale had been taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder in connection with Erik’s death. According to the Colorado Department of Corrections, Bettale was sentenced to 32 years in prison on November 18, 2022. Erik’s case is now considered solved.
