***SOLVED*** - On October 5, 2023, Shandon Ray Groom, 30, was sentenced to 17 to 26 years in prison after being convicted of second-degree murder. Eugene Moore, 37, was sentenced to 20 to 55 years after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in addition to a felony firearm offense. Shane Lamar Evans, 34, was sentenced in May 2023 to 15 to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder.
***Arrest Made*** - Timothy Eugene Moore and one other suspect were arrested on November 5, 2020.
According to court testimony, three men drove to a duplex in Van Buren Township to steal marijuana from a resident. Two of the men entered the wrong apartment and found Egypt Covington inside watching a movie. Egypt was shot to death and wrapped in her Christmas lights.
