Case Description
Diana Avera, 22, suffered from schizophrenia and was committed to a state-run psychiatric facility, Searcy Hospital, in Mount Vernon, Alabama, in 1980. On May 28, 1982, the hospital stated that Diana escaped and ran away. She has not been seen or heard from since. While a patient at the hospital, she wrote many letters saying how much she missed her family and wanted to come home. The family believed that the hospital reported Diana missing, but later found out that there was no missing person report filed. Diana was officially reported missing in 2020. Diana had hazel eye color and strawberry blonde colored hair at the time of her disappearance.
