On March 9, 2017, Derrick Eugene Bates, 37, was found dead from a single gunshot wound in the carport of a home on the 100 block of Oak Drive in Tuscumbia, Alabama shortly after 1 a.m. Investigators say the victim was confronted as soon as he got out of his car. Detectives believe the situation was planned, and he was potentially targeted.
