Case Description

On August 14, 1974, 15-year-old David L. Eyman was found burning in a ditch at 115 Peterson Road in southern Kansas City, Missouri. His hands and feet had been bound, and investigators determined that he had been burned alive. David’s wallet was missing, and a small amount of marijuana was reportedly found in his back pocket. A Raymore police officer reported discovering David’s body at approximately 3:45 a.m. The officer was later questioned by the Metropolitan Major Case Squad, which investigated the homicide for nine days before transferring the case to the Kansas City Police Department’s crimes against persons unit. According to newspaper reports, investigators suspected that the officer may have been involved in David’s death. The officer was never charged and denied any involvement. David’s homicide remains unsolved.
