**Update** - On December 3, 2025, James Clinton Cole took an Alford plea, admitting that prosecutors had enough evidence to convict him. He apologized in court but said he has no memory of what police described as a vicious attack. Minutes after taking the plea, Cole was sentenced to life in prison.
James Clinton Cole was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Cynthia Rodgers on March 14, 2022.
Cynthia Rodgers was a 27-year-old biologist researching Parkinson's disease at the National Institutes of Health when she was killed on January 22, 1989.
