Case Description
Annamaria Phelps and Daniel Lauer were en route to Virginia Beach, Virginia, from Amelia County, Virginia, on September 4, 1989. They were traveling eastbound on Interstate 64 in Daniel's 1973 Gold Chevrolet Nova Coupe. The next day, when the family was notified the two hadn't arrived at their destination, their families contacted the Virginia State Police and reported them missing. On September 5, 1989, the vehicle was located abandoned at the westbound rest area of Interstate 64 in New Kent County. On October 19, 1989, three miles east of the rest area where the vehicle was abandoned, hunters discovered human remains in the woods that were later determined to be those of Annamaria Phelps and Daniel Lauer.
