***UPDATE*** October 24, 2024, Shannon L. Wilkerson was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the murder of Amanda Gonzales on a U.S. Army base in Germany in 2001.
May 8, 2024, A former United States Army soldier has been convicted of killing a pregnant colleague in Germany more than two decades ago. Jurors in federal court in Pensacola, Florida, found 43-year-old Shannon Wilkerson guilty of murder for the 2001 death of Amanda Gonzales, another former soldier, at a base in Hanau. Sentencing for Wilkerson is set for August 8, 2024.
Amanda was found unresponsive in her barracks room. She failed to report to duty on base that day. Her death was ruled a homicide by asphyxiation. She was strangled with the pant legs of her uniform. She was also pregnant at the time
