On February 13, 1993, Renata Bateman’s remains  were discovered in the desert off N. Pima Road in Scottsdale Arizona. Police reported that Renata suffered from blunt-force trauma to her head that was caused by an unidentified object. It is unknown when exactly Renata was killed, but news reports say she was last heard from on January 13, 1993.

Renata was born in Phoenix and raised in Arizona. She was a mother to 5 daughters and dreamed of reuniting them after they were placed in foster care. Jalonda, one of Renata’s daughters, reflects upon one of many found memories of her mother, “One of my favorite memories with my mom was when we went to the zoo. She went to carry me on her shoulders to take a picture with the giraffes, and one of the giraffes began to eat my hair!” Jalonda fondly remembers her mother’s interests and hobbies, particularly that she loved to go bowling and fishing. Jalonda stated that Renata’s love for bowling was so deep that she even had her own personal bowling ball.

Renata’s child-like personality brought joy and happiness to many, and her absence has left a huge gap in her loved ones’ lives. Jalonda states that the loss of her mother, she was 8 years old at the time of Renata’s death, has affected her in many ways in both the past and present. She has always struggled with trying to find a mother figure that could guide her through difficult stages of life due to the absence of Renata.
